EDUCEN culture and urban disaster: A handbook
This handbook aims to support disaster risk reduction professionals to better appraise the role and impact of socio-cultural diversity, identity and social networks in urban disaster management; understand the role of cities in managing disaster risk; and instrumentalise and act according to the cultural dimensions assessed.
It provides a number of resources and European city case studies to help practitioners identify, analyse and map cultural factors, vulnerabilies and risk, in order to integrate culture into DRR and DRR into urban planning. Each EDUCEN city or urban region has its manual, systematising its experiences, tools and lessons learned.
The handbook also provides practical tools – games, social network analysis, focus groups, exhibitions – and guiding questions that may serve as points for professional reflection.
