Flood control in Bangladesh: a plan for action
In 1987 and 1988, Bangladesh experienced disastrous floods from the Brahmaputra and Ganges rivers. These events stimulated considerable international interest in helping Bangladesh deal with its flood problem. In June 1989, the World Bank agreed to a request from the Government to help in coordinating the international efforts. This report outlines an Action Plan which would be the first step in the implementation of a comprehensive longterm program for flood control and drainage in Bangladesh.
