Government of Maldives and United Nations post-tsunami lessons learned and best practices workshop: report on main findings, Maldives, 17-18 May, 2005
The unique and devastating nature of the tsunami along with the fact that is was the first ever major natural disaster to strike the Maldives was a key point raised during the opening sessions. It must be noted here that for a country, which has never experienced an event such as this, the response by the government and the people of the Maldives was extraordinary. It was also noted that the level of support provided, since the tsunami until now, by the international community was immensely valuable and sincerely appreciated.
