Health and climate change: country profile 2015: Brunei Darussalam
The national vision of Brunei Darussalam is called Wawasan Brunei 2035, which outlines the social, economic and enviromental goals for the country. To this end, the government has identified 6 priority sectors for further climate change adaptation actions: 1) Biodiversity, 2) Forestry, 3) Coastal and flood protection, 4) Health, 5) Agriculture and 6) Fisheries.
This profile indicates that in Brunei Darussalam, under a high emissions scenario, mean annual temperature is projected to rise by about 3.9°C on average from 1990 to 2100. Under a high emissions scenario, the risk of vector-borne diseases are likely to increase towards 2070. Heat-related deaths in the elderly (65+ years) are projected to increase to about 51 deaths per 100,000 by 2080 compared to the estimated baseline of zero deaths per 100,000 annually between 1961 and 1990. A rapid reduction in global emissions could limit heat-related deaths in the elderly to about 7 deaths per 100,000 in 2080.
