Healthy ageing in a changing climate: Creating inclusive, age-friendly, and climate resilient cities and communities in the UK
This publication reports on a 2022-23 research project which explored the challenges and opportunities of extreme weather and climate change on ageing populations across the UK. The project builds on the WHO's Age-Friendly Cities and Communities (AFCC) framework, which promotes active ageing by enhancing opportunities for health and community engagement, and overall quality of life as people grow older.
More than 140 older adults, policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders came together to co-design potential solutions at the local, community, and city level. The report identifies six key areas that require action to address the threat posed by climate change to the healthy ageing of older adults living in cities and communities throughout the UK.
