How to have climate-resilient food security in the coastal area
The editorial captures how climate change is putting food production at risk, and how disasters affect food security in and the agriculture sector as a whole. The articles in this report detail climate impacts in the fisher sector, small cities during COVID-19-associated lockdowns, building climate-resilient food systems in coastal areas, the impact of cyclones on food security in the country, water system issues, and agricultural sectors most vulnerable to climate change. Included also are articles on the experiences of residents in communities impacted by climate change in Bangladesh.
The editorial warns that food systems are on the brink if no actions are taken to reduce climate risks. Both land and marine-based food systems will see continuous declines in productivity through the combined effects of droughts, saltwater intrusion, cyclones, and overexploitation. Nevertheless, the worst food insecurity situations can be avoided through a combination of investment and information management that includes those most affected by climate impacts.
