Inclusive child-centered disaster risk reduction and management module
This educational material aims to provide adequate resources to children to build their disaster and emergency preparedness. Within any crisis-affected community, children are among the most marginalized. Children with disabilities are often excluded in the disaster risk reduction (DRR) planning and decision-making process.
Similarly, indigenous children can be excessively affected by disasters due to their remoteness. Their indigenous identity, cultural heritage, and intrinsic connection to their lands can be threatened when faced with natural disasters and socio-political upheavals. It is on these premises that there’s a need for ardent intervention such as the inclusive child-centered DRR.
The project to which these resources belong emphasizes the active participation and empowerment of children, ensuring that their voices are heard and their rights are protected throughout all stages of disasterto management. By integrating inclusive practices, such as accessible communication and tailored support, we create an environment where every child, regardless of their background or abilities, can actively contribute to building resilience. This approach not only safeguards children during emergencies but also nurtures their capacity to become agents of change, fostering a more inclusive and resilient society for all.
