Integrating disaster risk reduction (DRR) into multi annual programme scheme (MAPS) partners’ programming
A thematic research study carried out in 2008, with case study from Trócaire Central America:
This document identifies best practise in integrating disaster risk reduction (DRR) into humanitarian and development work and explores ways of strengthening organizational approaches to DRR. Divided into five chapters, it includes:
1) a background to the study; the methodology used; and outlines the main conceptual ideas underpinning DRR;
2) common approaches, strategies, lessons and challenges faced by MAPS partners in introducing DRR within their organisations;
3) the approach to DRR taken by Trócaire in Central America;
4) main lessons identified by the participants in the thematic study;
5) the 2008 study process and recommendations for carrying the process forward;
An appendix outlines each MAPS Partners’ Organisational approach to DRR.
The study was led by Trócaire and is the result of joint collaboration between Irish Aid, Christian Aid, Self Help Africa, Goal and Concern. To promote learning, an active and mutual learning process was adopted. This involved presentations and discussions by the different Irish Aid partners about how they approached integrating DRR into programming in their respective institutions.
