Integrating disaster risk reduction in European humanitarian assistance
This document presents the analysis of answers to a questionnaire given to the European Union to collect information on the integration of disaster risk reduction (DRR) into humanitarian assistance. This initiative of the German Federal Foreign Office during the Germany’s EU-Presidency was intended to initiate a discussion on how to further expand and enhance disaster risk reduction. This includes how to more systematically mainstream disaster preparedness, so that it becomes fully institutionalized in European Union humanitarian assistance.
The questionnaire addressed eight important aspects of the integration of DRR into humanitarian assistance namely: general aspects, funding modalities, funding strategy and decision making, regional distribution of intervention, technical capacities, mainstreaming of DRR, disaster risk reduction at European level and disaster reduction and climate change.
