Intercalibration of fish-based methods to evaluate river ecological quality
An important step for member states of EU was to develop comparable methods for evaluating the status of the water-bodies. Since fishes are more likely to be regarded as food than as environmental indicators, it has been difficult to establish methods for monitoring and assessing their populations. In May 2006, researchers representing 8 MS, met in Paris to make an attempt to start an intercalibration exercise among the different operational methods.
This report is mainly based on their findings. The author have also tried to draw some main conclusions and recommendations.
