Lessons and recommendations from Japanese civil society for the post 2015 DRR framework
This document summarizes the recommendations from major organization from Japanese civil society based on the lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake and its numerous challenges with this unprecedented scale of triple disaster (9.0 earthquake, tsunami, and accident at nuclear power plant), and particularly its evolution and adaption to one of the most challenging humanitarian response it faced in the history.
In line with the recommendations given from The Global Network of CSOs for Disaster Reduction (GNDR) with substantiating some of recommendation points with specific experience and lessons learnt from Japan, it was intended to be disseminated at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva, Switzerland. Sharing these lessons learnt is an initiative by Japanese Civil Society with the hope that similar disasters won't occur in the future, and the world is equipped with disaster risk reduction knowledge, experience, and lessons learnt from the past, envisaging to achieve resilient communities globally that we all are aiming for.
