Livestock and climate change
This paper examines the impacts of climate change on livestock and fisheries, the role of adaptation and mitigation strategies in the livestock sector, livestock and soil carbon, and gender issues in relation to livestock and climate change. The paper also includes case studies illustrating the strengthening of pastoralists’ resilience and capacity to adapt to climate variability and extremes in Mauritius, China, Eritrea, Mongolia, and Ethiopia, where a community development project includes early warning systems in order to strengthen the resilience of the rural poor and increase their ability to cope with external shocks, while making them less vulnerable to drought and other natural disasters, thus indirectly promoting climate change adaptation.
