Local government perspective on adapting water management to climate change
Water and climate change adaptation:
This perspective document summarizes five areas of urban vulnerability to climate change, recognizing that the range of risks to each city differs. It responds to the key question from the perspective of city leaders: Where will climate change hit water resources and water services the hardest?
It uses city examples to highlight the political and practical challenges for local officials in adaptation strategies, looking forward to: (i) translate knowledge to decision-making; (ii) identify and prioritize adaptation measures; (iii) secure financial commitment; and (iv) positively shape water sector development using climate change.
