Mitigate and assess risk from volcanic impact on terrain and human activities (MIA-VITA): newsletter n.1

This newsletter aims highlights the activities and outputs of a project designed to address the multidisciplinary aspects of volcanic threat assessment and management in the International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPCs) and Europe, from prevention to crisis management and recovery. It aims to develop useful products not only for the participating ICPCs but also for other countries with similar risk.

The MIA-VITA project, which is financed by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, Area 'Environment', gathers civil defence agencies, national geological and volcanological surveys, scientific teams (earth sciences, social sciences, building, soil, agriculture, information technologies (IT) and telecommunications) and an (IT) private company. MIA-VITA is working in close cooperation with local scientists and stakeholders in Africa (Cameroon, Cape Verde), in Asia (Indonesia, Philippines) and will be validated on a Caribbean volcano (Montserrat).
