Multilateral development bank support for disaster-resilient infrastructure systems
This publication explores how multilateral development banks (MDBs) can help improve the resilience of infrastructure given increasing climate and disaster risks. It highlights opportunities in three areas: risk-informed planning, financing assistance, and knowledge building through regional and global networks.
Key opportunities and next steps for MDBs emerging from this report are centred on three key themes:
- Integrating MDB support more consistently across the entire lifecycle and system of infrastructure assets, starting with early involvement in project conception and extending to systematic coordination with strategic national or sector planning;
- Strengthening the business case for resilience among public and private stakeholders, through access to user-friendly risk information and targeted financing solutions, to elevate disaster resilience to core consideration in decision-making; and
- Increasing collaboration within and across MDB teams to accelerate progress, alignment, and operational uptake in key areas of joint interest.
