National strategy on internal displacement 2020
This strategy reflects the global consensus that treats displacement as part of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation. It is indeed a part of the Government of Bangladesh's (GoB) action to implement the Sendai Framework and its commitment to the Platform on Disaster Displacement. In particular, the strategy will spell out programmatic interventions to include disaster displacement and human mobility challenges in local, national and regional DRR strategies; to integrate strategies with regional climate change actions; and initiate systematic data collection on disaster displacement as recommended by the Platform on Disaster Displacement.
The long-term vision of the Strategy is to make vulnerable communities in Bangladesh resilient to climate change and disasters through sustainable management of disasters and climate-induced internal displacement. The goal of the Strategy is to set out a comprehensive and realistic rights-based framework that respects, protects, and ensures the rights of disaster and climate-induced internally displaced persons (DCIIDPs) in different stages of displacement and during the search for durable solutions.
