Nepal: Comprehensive school safety minimum package
Nepal's Minimum School Safety Package (MSSP) envisages critical activities that schools should implement either on their own or with outside support. The MSSP seeks to:
- - Reduce disaster risks in schools, including through the establishment of basic safe learning facilities and life saving measures.
- - Enhance school level preparedness actions to ensure a continuity of education for children in the aftermath of disasters.
- - Build a sense of minimal level confidence and security among children, school faculties, and parents towards resilience in education.
The MSSP will benefit schools by establishing a foundation for safety, facilitating cost-effective interventions, enhancing quality education, and improving social security. Furthermore, it enhances resilience education among children and parents, builds the confidence of parents to enroll their kids in school activities, and ascertains the institutional accountability of all stakeholders in the education sector to ensure a minimum standard of school safety. It also allows governments to implement this standard in an objective and comparable manner.
