Open data for resilience initiative field guide

This document captures the practices and policies of a range of international partners and national governments around the management of open data for disaster risk management. This guide provides planners and program officers with a map of how to write a strategic vision, craft a budget, hire personnel, and evaluate the impact of open data.

Open Data for Resilience Initiative (OpenDRI) is a program that helps unlock data that exist. It provides a method to collect new data at low cost and build the community around the data so that it gets applied to decisions about managing risk. OpenDRI works with governments to collate existing data using open source software. It also works with communities to collect data and build maps that describe the exposure of the built environment to natural hazards. And OpenDRI catalyzes an ecosystem of stakeholders who apply the data to their challenges in disaster risk management.
