Policy brief: Insurance solutions in the context of climate change-related loss and damage
This document aims to support climate negotiators in the decision-making process regarding insurance solution in the context of climate change. The document is comprised of five sections: (i) section one introduces the situation of loss and damage today and predictions for loss and damage in the future; (ii) section two explains how insurance can serve as substantial adaptation measure; (iii) section three presents examples of how insurance can be used at local, national, and regional levels; (iv) section four explains considerations regarding the role of the Convention in insurance approaches to loss and damage; (v) and section five looks to the future of loss and damage insurance, with the hopes that it will become more institutionalized.
