Policy lessons for Japanese disaster responses
Mika Shimizu argues in this bulletin that three major specific policy and social resilience lessons need to be learned from the earthquake, tsunami and Fukushima nuclear power plant failure that devastated large parts of Northeastern Japan on 11 March. This includes having a central government management authority that is responsible for coordinating central and local government responses; establishing a local-central government communication that can provide the exact resources required; and integrating a knowledge management component that would embody the plethora of information, data, ideas and policy proposals emerging.
