Portugal: National Report in preparation for WCDR (2004)
Portugal has made an effort in order to create legislation addressing disaster risk. For example, municipalities are obliged to identify flood risk areas and to use information in their Municipal Land use Plans; there are laws concerning prevention measures to control fire ignitions; there is a national strategy for climate change which could lead could lead to prevention of extreme events, such as floods, forest fires or heat waves; there are roles concerning major industrial accidents and transportation of dangerous goods.
