Practical action's approach in disseminating localized flood early warning in Bangladesh
This paper explains Practical Action's approaches as part of the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance on 'Disseminating localized flood early warning in Bangladesh' through multiple channels. An effective Early Warning System ensures that accurate, reliable, actionable, and understandable information reaches those who need it in a timely manner. Practical Action takes a comprehensive and people-centered approach to ensure that timely, accurate, and understandable information reaches the most vulnerable.
The study conducted in two Upazilas of Faridpur District with the support from Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) portray that a lack of better communication has been the main barrier (50%) in getting flood early warning in remote char areas of Bangladesh followed by lack of proper dissemination channel (47%), and a lack of authenticity of the information (9%).
