Priority setting for the disaster risk reduction on the small stream watershed regions to adapt climate change

Flood-related disasters on small streams caused by high intensity localised rainfall and flash floods has been continuously increasing especially for the residential areas in the Republic of Korea. In this paper, the author underlines the fact that flood risk assessment is needed for decision-making to allocate resources and select optimum community-based restoration measures.

The author proposes to design a guideline for decision-making on prevention or preparedness, sustainable development and resilient recovering. This guideline can be used to rebuild the small streams to be in harmony with the natural environment and to establish the floodplain to minimise future flood damages and to maximise natural stream habitat.
