Recent extremes of drought and flooding in Amazonia: vulnerabilities and human adaptation
This study focuses on the impacts of extreme drought and flooding situations in Amazonia, using level/discharge data from some rivers in the Amazon region as indicators of impacts. The study focuses on three main themes: (i) analyses of observed impacts of extreme drought and flooding situations in Amazonia on natural and human systems; (ii) the use of river level/discharge data as a tool of adaptation by the local population; and (iii) current adaptation strategies implemented by regional and local governments to cope with some observed recent extremes.
