Reducing vulnerability to disasters in Roma settlements
As part of the YUROM Center project “Araktut 3 – Stay Safe 3,” implemented through the program “EU for Disaster Resilient Serbia,” aimed at reducing vulnerability to disasters and increasing resilience to climate change through investment in human capacities, procurement of equipment, and improvement of infrastructure, the YUROM Center has initiated the collection of ethnically sensitive statistical data concerning the Roma community in Serbia. This data focuses on the sensitive consequences of disasters, vulnerability assessments, and the development of indicators for monitoring and measuring progress even after the project concludes.
This report offers a series of conclusions derived from the responses. In particular, the researchers note that the existing protection and rescue system fail to meet the real needs of the community, stemming from a lack of infrastructure, and that there is a need to develop specific tailored preventive plans.
