Regional bulletin highlighting UN-HABITAT activity in central, eastern and south-eastern Europe
This report highlights UNHABITAT's activities in eastern, southern and central Europe, where natural disasters such as recent flooding, subsidence and brush fire related problems have brought to the fore the role of spatial planning in protecting people from future disasters. With a view to promoting better urban planning, stronger local government, climate change measures and decentralisation, it advocates the need to ensure that planning takes account of risks of natural disaster and that cities should be compact rather than sprawling.
