Urban risk, city planning and the role of local governments in dealing with risk reduction have been recognized as key factors to build resilient communities and nations. This program highlighted roles of local governments in implementing disaster risk reduction and disaster management in ensuring effective and well-coordinated local actions to save lives and protect infrastructure, places and cities from excessive destruction.
The state government shall play a central role in coordinating and sustaining a multi-level, multi-stakeholder platform to promote disaster risk reduction and manage disaster risk in the state, while effectively engage local communities and citizens with disaster risk reduction activities and link their concerns with government priorities.
