Risk assessment and management for tsunami hazard: case study of the port city of Galle
This case study presents a summary of investigative studies conducted for risk assessment of the city of Galle in Sri Lanka and focuses on development of simplified approach to risk assessment, planning of mitigation measures and their implementation in the aftermath of the Indian Ocean tsunami. Both detailed and simplified approaches have been adopted for risk assessment and the outputs have been compared examining the differences. Given that coastline of Sri Lanka is prone to low frequency and high impact tsunami hazard, appropriate coast protection measures have been proposed.
