River basin commissions and other institutions for transboundary water cooperation

Capacity for water cooperation in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia:

This publication is intended to help the establishment and improve efficiency of joint bodies to facilitate transboundary water cooperation in the region, including floods protection. It provides: (i) a review of the current international legal basis for the establishment of joint bodies for transboundary water cooperation; (ii) an analysis of mechanisms for organization and activities of joint bodies, such as to coordinate actions to prevent floods; (iii) recommendations on developing cooperation, establishing and improving joint bodies in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) countries.

The publication analyses the organization and activities of joint bodies in the UNECE region and globally, and presents recommendations and best practices for establishing new and improving existing joint bodies with a focus on EECCA countries.
