Safer School Project - School districts: Jaffarabad and Naseerabad
This document reports challenges, constraints and achievements for a school-based Disaster Risk Reduction program in the districts Jaffarabad and Naseerabad in Pakistan. The aim of this long-term project is to enhance the awareness, basic understanding and resilience to risks and vulnerabilities that can cause physical or psychological harm. The project includes DRR demonstrations, first aid training, school safety plans and preventive & mitigations measures to meet 9 indicators.
DRR related interventions for the school children, community members and teachers took place in 15 schools. Training, DRR bags with four DRR related books, fire extinguishers and complete first aid kits were distributed, to raise awareness and ensure safety and security in case of any incident.
Regular DRR interventions help to identify, assess and monitor disaster risk and enhance early warning in case of emergency and most importantly to build an environment of safety and resilience. The extension of DRR interventions can contribute to strengthening disaster preparedness for effective response at the community level.
