School safety approach and the scaling up strategy

This paper introduces the concept of school safety and describes some of its approaches in Nepal, a country vulnerable to many disasters, in which schools are particularly at risk, because they are not built with earthquake resistant technologies, are often overcrowded and located in hazardous spots.

The School Safety Approach wants to serve two purposes:

1. A comprehensive approach to school safety, which can be used, promoted and replicated by a variety of actors in Nepal
2. Provide an outline of a strategy for scaling up comprehensive approach to school safety
