Sino-German disaster risk management project
This document explains the disaster vulnerability context of China, the measures that are currently being taken to increase disaster resilience across the country, and the joint project with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH for disaster risk reduction (DRR).
The document is divided into five sections: (i) section one explains the disaster profile of China, and recognizes a need for expanded DRR efforts; (ii) section two explains how the Sino-German project compliments pre-existing DRR projects in China; (iii) section three addresses the need to adapt international guidelines to the local context; (iv) section four relates the most important factors which contributed to the success of the program; (v) section five concludes the document by looking to the future landscape of DRR in China.
