Space-based information for disaster preparedness and risk management
This information sheet outlines basic technologies, approaches, and applications related to geographical information and remote sensing. It specifically considers the integration of geospatial tools and space-based information and techniques into ICIMOD’s thematic programmes to help reduce environmental vulnerability and promote disaster resilience in the Hindu Kush-Himalayan region, which is prone to natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods, flash floods, landslides, droughts, and wildfires. It is intended to be used as a background for understanding for policy makers, development workers, and others.
