Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism’s take on Summit of the Future
The Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism | UNDRR also referred to as Sendai Stakeholder Mechanism in the 21 Major Groups and Other Stakeholders (MGoS) | High-Level Political Forum, participated in the preparatory process of the Summit of the Future and submitted position papers to inform Summit of the Future outcome documents; the Pact of the Future, Declaration on Future Generation, and Global Digital Compact. SEM underscores the value of anticipatory action and use of risk reduction strategies across all sectors in creating a sustainable future for all. The Pact of the Future and its annexes have several noteworthy Actions that SEM and other DRR stakeholders advocated for.
The Pact’s DRR-related actions emphasize proactive measures that anticipate, mitigate, and respond to risks, underscoring the importance of resilience in all areas of development. Civil society actors are uniquely positioned to drive these efforts forward, bringing local knowledge, innovative solutions, and on-the-ground mobilization to support the implementation of global frameworks like the Sendai Framework and the 2030 Agenda. Collaboration between the UN, member states, and civil society is essential to bridge gaps in current DRR implementation and amplify initiatives that protect vulnerable populations. SEM calls for building stronger partnerships to ensure a more inclusive approach, where community voices shape DRR strategies to suit diverse sectors.
