In this paper, the climate conditions in China in 2023 are summarized, including the features of the annual mean and rainy season, the main meteorological disasters, and extreme climate events, as well as their impacts. All this information provided for scientific research is of benefit to the prevention and reduction of disasters.
Under global warming, the frequency and severity of extreme climate events in China, such as heavy precipitation and heat waves, are increasing, which is a great challenge to disaster risk reduction and prevention. Consistent with the global mean (World Meteorological Organization, 2023), 2023 was the hottest year for China, with an annual temperature of 10.71°C, 0.82°C above normal.
