Student brigades: concept paper and implementation guidelines
This document addresses school-based disaster risk reduction (DRR) as one of the main instrument to build disaster resilient communities. It presents an initiative in which students, through organized brigades, are able to lead the campaign of community based disaster preparedness, mitigation, rescue, recovery and adaptation.
On the basis of a case study illustrating the success story of an initiative taken forward by a member of a student brigade, the document gives the procedure of the members' formation and details the roles and responsibilities, as well as the operating principles and sutainability, of the Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) project of student brigades.
