Sustainable food and nutrition security under changing climate conditions

This study explains the global issue of food and nutrition insecurity with the aim of presenting new approaches to practical action which Welthungerhilfe can incorporate into its current climate change adaptation strategy. One key element is the focus on strengthening civil society groups in poorer countries to enable them to develop for themselves adaptive measures to climate change and extreme weather conditions.
The document is comprised of seven sections: (i) section one relates the background of food insecurity and explains how climate change exacerbates the situation; (ii) section two explains the objectives and methods of the study; (iii) section three explains the four dimensions of food and nutrition security, and the political ideology behind food sovereignty; (iv) section four explains the impacts of climate change on food security by region and by sector; (v) section five proposes strategic approaches to establishing food security under changing climatic conditions; (vi) section six encourages various measures of assessing risk and vulnerability with a resilience goal; (vii) section seven offers a checklist to help establish new climate change adaptation projects.
