Technical guide on enhancing climate resilience and food & nutrition security: a technical guide for ACF field workers and partners
This technical guide offers a set of concrete actions and practical orientations to enhance climate resilience and food and nutrition security. These actions should be conducted in priority in communities and countries highly exposed to climate-related shocks and seasonal trends. This guide is designed to complement others tools developed by Action Contre la Faim.
This document introduces important climate-related issues that exacerbate food and nutrition insecurity in ACF countries of operations. It recommends a set of 8 mutually-reinforcing actions that practitioners can implement in at-risk communities and countries. Finally, it provides practical guidance on how to implement these actions.
The 8 actions are: (i) analysing the interplay of climate-related shocks and stresses with food and nutrition security; (ii) strengthening early warning systems and linking alerts to early food and nutrition security response mechanisms; (iii) enhancing institutional preparedness for early action; (iv) tackling seasonal peaks of under-nutrition; (v) climate-proofing all food and nutrition security projects; (vi)facilitating community-based risk management plans; (viii) conducting advocacy and supporting policy development; (ix) conducting applied research and strengthening evidence.
