UNDP brief 6 - Urban risk management
This brief addresses the immense disaster risks faced by urban centers and emphasizes the strong need to incorporate risk reduction in urban areas, describing the combination of factors leading to risk in urban areas: (i) location and exposure to hazards; and (ii) increased vulnerability due to poor local governance, environmental degradation, and the over-stretching of resources. It introduces UNDP's approach to urban risk management projects and key policy areas through which urban risk can be reduced. It also present a case study from India.
