USA: Disaster mitigation act of 2000
This Act amends the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act to authorize a program for predisaster mitigation, streamline the administration of disaster relief, and control the Federal costs of disaster assistance. As a condition of disaster assistance, the requirement for a state mitigation plan is continued, adding incentives for increased coordination of mitigation activities at the state level through the creation of requirements for two different levels of state plans.
In addition to establishing a new stipulation for local mitigation plans, the Act authorizes up to 7% of Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funds available to a state for development of mitigation plans.
