Using community resilience vision statements to engage communities in Bangladesh
Concern Worldwide Bangladesh is implementing the Flood Resilience Project, working with 22 communities in the North-Western regions of Bangladesh. The project focuses on pre-event resilience building for communities who are most vulnerable to the impacts of floods, using the Flood Resilience Measurement for Communities (FRMC) tool, which was developed by the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance to engage the communities in understanding floods and developing resilience building action plans through a participatory and holistic approach.
This article aims to share the process of community engagement and lessons learned from the process through sharing insights from the project team. The use of FRMC gives the community, stakeholders and project staff an understanding of the current resilience status of a community and enables them to develop participatory risk informed resilience actions.
