Using videos in floods and bushfires to educate, signal risk, and promote protective action in the community
The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of using videos to educate and signal risk during natural disasters, and to promote protective action in the community. The researchers examine whether specific videos educate the public, signal risk, and/or promote protective actions.
The findings suggest that videos are an effective tool for educating and promoting protective action during natural disasters. Participants reported increased knowledge and awareness of risks, as well as increased motivation to take protective action. The study also highlighted the importance of using clear and concise messaging in videos, as well as ensuring they are tailored to the specific needs and concerns of the community. Based on these findings, the study recommends that videos be included as a key component of community education and preparedness programs for natural disasters.
