This brief provides an overview of the role of wetlands as natural infrastructure for disaster risk reduction, either used alone or in conjunction with traditional 'hard' infrastructure. It provides recommendations for the integration of wetlands that mitigate hazards into national DRR policies and outlines policy considerations for increasing the resilience of communities living in river basins and coastal zones.
