WFP critical corporate initiative: Climate response analysis for adaptation Burundi
The World Food Programme and partners have undertaken an analysis of climate risks in Burundi and recommended programmes to address identified risks.
The majority of Burundians are smallholder farmers facing serious constraints that will be further exacerbated under climate change. Most Burundia agricultural systems are highly vulnerable to climate hazards, including flooding, landslides, water deficit, drought, and erratic rainfall. In the next 10 to 30 years, changes in precipitation patterns, increased temperatures, and protracted dry seasons are expected to have significant implications for productivity, crop suitability, and food security.
