This report considers some of locations where large magnitude earthquakes may occur in the future and result in losses to the insurance industry: Caribbean (Lesser antilles), Chile, Indonesia (Sumatra), Japan and North america (Cascadia). In addition to the scientific assessment, the report covers the (re)insurance sector’s view and addresses the implications of a mega-earthquake for each region.

For each location, the report provides: (i) the scientific view of fault, history and risk; and (ii) the (re)insurance view of insurance take-up, market, the potential impact of a mega-earthquake and the steps to take in order to prepare for the future.
