World Economic and Social Survey 2011: the great green technological transformation
This year's issue of the World Economic and Social Survey calls for a complete transformation of technology on which human economic activity is based in order to meet both the objectives of conquering poverty and protecting the environment. It addresses technology policies in support of adaptation and disaster risk reduction and advocates for disaster risk management to be an integral part of national development strategies.
Chapter IV, Reducing human harm from natural hazards: (i) considers the multidimensional impacts of natural disasters; (ii) proposes approaches to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation; (iii) describes the road to technological transformation; and (iv) suggests a way of enabling sector-level disaster-resilient technological change.
