Review of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP)
Report from an ICSU-WMO-IOC-IGFA review panel:
This document reports on the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP)'s role in providing the science that underpins research on climate predictability, adaptation, and mitigation, thus strengthening the links with key end-user groups. It gives some findings and recommendations for WCRP to success in helping society meet the challenges of global climate change.
The report consists of three parts: an introductory chapter, a chapter on findings and other relevant information, and a chapter on recommendations. Within the challenges faced by WCRP, the document reviews the proposal for a 'Weather, climate, and earth-system prediction project' that would increase the capacity of disaster-risk reduction managers and environmental policy makers to make sound decisions, in order to minimize and adapt to the societal, economic, and environmental vulnerabilities arising from high-impact weather and climate.
