Haiti making culture a motor for reconstruction
This document presents the programmes for action proposed from the cultural angle as an integral part of the recovery in Haiti following the earthquake that hit the country on 12 January 2010. It describes some activities undertaken to salvage objects and improve disaster risk reduction (DRR) and storage conditions, as well as to develop DRR and prevention plans for the National Archives and other key archives.
The overall document emphasizes five cultural projects undertaken with support of UNESCO. The proposed projects cover all areas of UNESCO's cultural expertise grouped around five pillars: (i) building strong institutions; (ii) Port-au-Prince - towards an integrated approach to culture; (iii) Jacmel - restoring memory, encouraging creativity; (iv) Léogâne - safeguarding the intangible cultural heritage; (v) National History Park - protecting Haiti’s world heritage.
