Exploring the impact of climate change on children in South Africa
This document provides an analysis of the impacts of climate change on child well-being which is divided into primary and secondary impacts. This study seeks to give value by complementing the analysis of primary impacts with an exploration of how household coping and adaptation strategies will affect children over the short and long term. It highlights the likely impact of climate change on children’s health, education, nutrition, safety and access to adequate housing and sanitation in South Africa – both directly and indirectly. It also presents a body of evidence that South Africa’s climate is already changing.
