More than good deeds: disaster risk management and Australian, Japanese and US Defence forces
This report suggests that Asia–Pacific states need to allocate greater resources to risk reduction activities and increase the speed and effectiveness of relief efforts. It examines the use of Australian, US and Japanese defence forces in providing assistance across the disaster risk management (DRM) spectrum to states in the Asia–Pacific region. It assesses how militaries in the Asia–Pacific region should adapt to an environment in which more frequent and larger disasters are expected. It lays out a series of broad recommendations to improve the contributions of the three defence forces studied to regional DRM.
